This course will prepare you for employment as a Disability and Developmental Educator or Community Rehabilitation professional. Graduates can become professionally recognised as part of the Australian Society of Rehabilitation Counsellors (ASORC) and/or the Rehabilitation Counselling Association of Australasia (RCAA).

Dr Michelle Bellon
Michelle Bellon is a Senior Lecturer in the Disability and Community Inclusion Unit. She began her career working as a Developmental Educator providing education, community integration and counselling support to adults with acquired brain injury (ABI) within community-based and private consultancy services. Her research, publications, teaching and professional involvement combine interests in epilepsy, acquired brain injury and family/care-giver supports. She has held a range of management roles including President of the Epilepsy Association of SA and NT, Director of Epilepsy Australia, and Board member of the Community Re-entry Program and is an Epilepsy Ambassador.
Dr Ruth Walker
Ruth is the Undergraduate Course Coordinator and Senior Lecturer for the Bachelor of Disability and Developmental Education at Flinders University. Ruth’s background is as a social gerontologist, specialising in public health and psychology. Since 2007, Ruth has been awarded over $1.5 million in competitive grants funding for various research projects and been published in a number of prestigious journals.
Associate Professor Caroline Ellison
Caroline is Head of the Disability and Community Inclusion Unit at Flinders University, a Developmental Educator, education practitioner and consultant. Caroline has a strong commitment to the active inclusion of all people in our communities, particularly those experiencing discrimination and disadvantage. Caroline was awarded Developmental Educator Of The Year by the Developmental Educators Association for her contribution to disability services and the profession. Caroline is the Chairperson of The Community Living Project and a member of a number of Australian disability associations.
