We are rising to the challenge of preparing our students for success in a future that will be every bit as dynamic and unpredictable as it is exciting. It requires us to surpass tradition and embrace opportunity.
Flinders University has enjoyed considerable growth in recent years, and we are well on our way to delivering the ambitious targets of our Strategic Plan, Making a Difference – The 2025 Agenda. We now plan to build on our success through the creation of Flinders Village, enabling our future growth and providing a great campus experience in a globally competitive precinct.
Our vision is to create a vibrant urban centre that will become a lifestyle focus for southern Adelaide. From high-tech research facilities to cafés, shops and entertainment, we want Flinders Village to be a place to live, learn, innovate, work and enjoy. An expanded residential offering for students will be a key part of the Village, but we want the wider community to share its amenities. This will be a cultural and creative hub that is a beacon of progress, embodying sustainability and sympathetic to its surrounds.
Such a vision cannot be achieved in isolation. The extension of the Flinders rail line, a crucial transport connection, is the key that unlocks our potential. We thank the state and federal governments and welcome their far-reaching decision to invest $141 million in this important infrastructure. It is the catalyst that will enable us to attract $1.1 billion in investment which will bring our vision to life. The new transport link will connect Flinders University to an ever-widening community and will improve access to the CBD for students living on campus.
Flinders University was founded upon a bold, future-focused vision. This plan marks the next momentous step in our journey to become one of the most innovative, creative and vibrant university campuses anywhere in the world.

Flinders Village will commence with the development of a flagship Health and Medical Research Building, amplifying our longstanding contributions across the health, education and medical sectors into the future. It will promote high-performing research outcomes which positively impact on healthcare in South Australia, nationally and globally.
Flinders has now commenced work on a pop-up community plaza, connecting the future Flinders Railway Station with our university community. This will be a safe and active space for passengers commuting via the train to various Flinders locations, with food trucks, shady plants and seating for students, staff and community to relax and enjoy throughout the day. Work on the plaza is expected to be complete later this year.
Centred around the new Flinders Station, Flinders Village will transform our campus into a vibrant urban centre in Adelaide’s south.
Flinders Village will merge university life with our wider community; creating a mixed-use community precinct for students, educators, visitors, service providers and local residents alike.
Flinders University is poised for an exciting future. Our excellent educational programs and world-class research are supported by strong partnerships with government, business and our community.
Flinders University is committed to fostering a vibrant and engaging university experience. Flinders Village will be a focal point for research innovation, commercial activity and residential living to complement our exceptional learning environment. A dynamic environment, with integrated transport and connections, Flinders Village will transform the arrival experience at Flinders University for students, staff and visitors alike.
Flinders Village will seamlessly connect us with our local partner hospitals, enhancing the Flinders community experience for patients and staff. This integration also provides invaluable opportunities for Work-Integrated Learning for students, and vital translation of clinical research into solutions for the health industry.
