The Unibooks Honours Scholarship was established following a generous donation from Unibooks. The scholarship provides financial assistance to an undergraduate student undertaking an honours program at Flinders University.
For Brodie Nugent, the 2015 Unibooks Honours Scholarship provided her with the opportunity to live away from her home in the country, in order to study. “The scholarship has helped enable me to live without struggling, and to put some money away for my future as well.”
Brodie is currently completing a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in History. She was previously enrolled in a Bachelor of Education/Bachelor of Arts degree, with History as her Arts major. Brodie says, “I enjoyed studying history so much that I decided to put teaching on hold and pursue my interest in history to see where that might take me.”
Upon receiving the scholarship from Unibooks, Brodie says, “I felt very proud and also very surprised.” Brodie now uses the scholarship as a strong motivator.
“I have to remember that people have invested in my studies and my future; they’ve chosen to give me their scholarship, and I have to honour that by doing my best.”
Brodie is very thankful for her scholarship and has a special message for Unibooks: “Thank you so much for investing in my future. I promise that I won’t let it go to waste! May God bless you for your generosity, to me and to the past and future recipients of this scholarship.”
Looking towards her future, Brodie says, “I would love to continue my studies in history. I’m planning to move to Ireland next year, and I hope to be accepted into a PhD program at one of the universities there. In the longer term, I’m hoping to pursue a career in either academia or politics.”
