Student scholarships
Resthaven scholarships for students whose studies are focused on the needs of older Australians are reducing financial barriers and developing a diverse aged care workforce.
Since 2017, community and residential aged care provider Resthaven has provided four, two-year scholarships for students at Flinders University.
This year Kishor Dahal, Zeynep Al and Nikki Jones received Resthaven scholarships. The critical financial support enabled them to focus on their studies and work towards making a broader contribution to society through careers in aged care.
Nursing student Kishor received the financial support he needed to complete his required 12 weeks of full-time clinical placement, and allowed him to focus on his studies and research.
‘This financial endorsement has also boosted my self-confidence to continue my studies and allowed me to contribute towards the patient’s best health outcome,’ says Kishor.
‘The scholarship has pushed me to become a compassionate, confident and competent registered nurse. I feel blessed that I have been given the opportunity to be awarded a scholarship to help fulfil my dream.
‘I will prove that I do have what it takes to not only be a successful student, but an outstanding registered nurse.’
Riverland student Zeynep has been able to complete her Bachelor of Nursing this year thanks to the Resthaven scholarship.
‘During my final year of studies I needed to complete large blocks of placement, which did not allow me to work as much. The scholarship has allowed to me to give one hundred percent to my studies and placement and not worry about the financial stress of no income for six weeks,’ says Zeynep.
‘I am excited to see what the future holds. I hope to one day pursue my career as a Registered Nurse in Aged Care, specialising in Palliative care as it is something I feel very passionate about.’
