Our research is inspired by people. We work with health practitioners, patients and a vast network of rural and remote community partnerships to better understand the health needs of Australians and people across the globe.

FHMRI is home to some of Australia’s most accomplished researchers in the fields of cancer, sleep, infection and immunity, neuroscience, heart and vascular, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, mental health, and much more. Our teams continue to grow and we welcome passionate researchers who push the boundaries of health and medical knowledge to better understand how to improve human health. 

Supporting research excellence

FHMRI is not afraid to support cutting-edge ideas, whether they be cutting-edge research practices, new ways to support researchers or new ways to optimise health services. We work with health practitioners, patients and collaborate across an expansive network of disciplines, national and international universities and partnership organisations.

 FHMRI’s researchers are informed and supported by experts in research methods, consumer engagement, data and analytics - they have access to state-of the art research facilities and are members of a community of like-minded researchers.

Our locations

We have Australia’s widest network of remote and rural campuses and community partnerships, extending from Mt Gamier to Adelaide in South Australia and from Alice Springs and Katherine to Darwin in the Northern Territory.

Our main campus is in Bedford Park in Adelaide. It is positioned in the centre of the Flinders’ Health Precinct and is co-located with Flinders Medical Centre teaching hospital and Flinders Private Hospital. This co-location of University and Hospital researchers, scientists and clinicians facilitates collaborative research which is focused on improving the health of individual patients and the community more broadly with less delay.

New Health & Medical Research Building – opening 2024

Construction has begun on the new $255 million Flinders Health and Medical Research Building.

Flinders University is investing in a world-class Health and Medical Research Building (HMRB) for Southern Adelaide. As a leading biomedical research facility, it will enable collaboration between researchers, healthcare and industry partners, translating world-class research into improved community healthcare outcomes.
