Liam Howard-Fabretto was a 2014 recipient of the SA Water Scholarship in Science.
Studying his second year of a Bachelor of Science (Honours) (Enhanced Program for High Achievers), Liam says that receiving the scholarship was recognition of his hard work. “The scholarship was chosen based on a letter explaining the relevance of the course and topics I was taking to SA Water, as well as academic merit. Being awarded the scholarship made me feel positive about myself and the quality of work I have been producing while at Flinders University.”
Liam says he chose to study at Flinders due to his “strong interest in physics and chemistry, and the extension that the high achievers program offers – one extra research based topic each year.”
The scholarship Liam received allowed him to spend more time focusing on his academic work. “I am employed in a casual position at a retail store. The monetary award from the scholarship meant that I didn’t have to worry about getting too many shifts, which can interfere with university study.”
Liam is grateful for the scholarship, and says, “I would like to thank SA Water for their generosity. The money received helps students, like me, with their university studies and does not go to waste.”
Liam aims to excel at his university work throughout the rest of his course, and intends to continue on to postgraduate study. “I would like to complete a PhD and work in research, most likely in physics or physical chemistry.”
