Katherine Boyd received a Resthaven Undergraduate Nursing Scholarship in 2015, during her second year studying a Bachelor of Health Sciences/Bachelor of Nursing.
With an interest in helping people to become healthier, Katherine was attracted to Flinders University due to its “good reputation in this area of study”.
Katherine discovered the scholarship on the student system, and she admits,
“I was looking for a little extra motivation. I applied because the scholarship could make a real difference financially.”
On receiving the receiving the scholarship, Katherine says,
“I felt pleased and grateful.”
She went on to say that,
“being awarded this scholarship meant that I didn’t need to worry so much about money and could focus more on my studies. I see this scholarship as motivation to do well, as my degree is now not only for me.”
“The financial benefit is the most obvious, but this scholarship has provided more than that. There have been some great networking opportunities and inspiration by exposing me to some areas of nursing and research that I was previously unaware of.”
“My experiences have inspired me to look at aged care as more than just care facilities and think about how aged care affects all areas of nursing, including in every emergency department and hospital across the country.”
Katherine is grateful for the support she has received and would like to thank the donors of her scholarship. “Thank you Resthaven for this fantastic opportunity. Not only have I felt financially supported this year, but I have also been inspired to think big.” Katherine attended the Resthaven 80th Anniversary Scholarship Celebration in October 2015, and she says, “I very much enjoyed the opportunity to meet some of you and hear you speak.”
Katherine is looking forward to completing her degrees, but she is keeping her options open in regards to her career. She says, “I would like to work somewhere in research, training or management.”
