The Heather Barnes Scholarship is funded from a donation made by Mrs Heather Barnes. The scholarship supports an undergraduate student enrolled in the second or later year of their course.
Wesley Huxtable was the scholarship recipient in 2014. Wesley is studying a Bachelor of Medical Science and has a keen interest in human physiology and medicine.
On receiving the scholarship, Wesley says, “I was surprised as I wasn’t really expecting to be awarded it. I am very thankful as it was very helpful to pay for university costs”. Wesley also recognises that, “being awarded a scholarship is noted on your academic record, making it something that could help you stand out from your peers”.
Wesley applied to study at Flinders University because “Flinders has a great campus and excellent research facilities”. He found out about the scholarship on the university website and encourages other students to do the same, “if you think you are eligible and feel that it could help you – then go for it!”
After completing his current degree, Wesley hopes to gain entry into the Doctor of Medicine course at Flinders University.
Wesley acknowledges the generosity of Mrs Heather Barnes for making his university experience possible.
“Thank you very much for donating to the University and for providing a student with much needed financial aid”.
