The Flinders Surgical Lab in Tonsley offers surgical skills training for small and large groups (up to 45 people). Our available equipment includes 20 separate workstations, mobile C-arm fluoroscopic x-ray and surgical power tools and instruments.
A research and development laboratory, we specialise in medical devices, assistive technologies, instruments, software and systems for understanding, diagnosing, treating and monitoring medical conditions.
Our research lab includes a range of equipment and technology systems including a six degree of freedom hexapod robot, Instron materials testing system and CellScale Biotester.
The lab offers an array of equipment including a 10 camera Vicon system for motion capture and analysis, 4 AMTI force plates providing ground reaction measurements, and a number of other facilities to enable muscle activity measurement and kinetic analysis of a range of typical activities. The lab is open for research, clinical and teaching purposes. Contact David Hobbs to learn more.
In collaboration with Cisco, this lab is an initiative of the Digital Health Research Centre and is shared with the MDRI. It is a unique space with a strong collaborative and innovative environment promoting Medical Simulation, Digital Health Design, and IoT in Health.
This facility incorporates two experimental spaces. A Faraday cage for sensitive or isolated EEG recordings and an acoustic and lighting controlled room offering acoustic and visual recording and analysis software for research on human communication, speech and non-verbal interactions.
Flinders Innovation Centre provides access to 3D printing, 3D scanning and other rapid prototyping services. The services are used by researchers, local businesses and designers to produce cost-effective, high-quality prototypes for many commercialisation objectives.
This new lab will soon be launched with equipment for 3D scanning of large and heavy samples. This includes whole machine parts, human and animal limbs or segments, biomaterials, prosthesis devices, fossils and plant root systems for research and industrial applications. This also allows experimental testing rigs, such as mechanical stages or environmental chambers, to be placed inside the scanner (in situ testing), for testing samples while scanning.
Test Labs is a dedicated test facility located at Tonsley within the College of Science and Engineering, Flinders University. We provide research and testing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including surgical masks, respirators and medical gowns.
