Professor David Mabberley AM
Formerly Director of the Herbarium, Library, Art and Archives, Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, and Executive Director of the Royal Botanic Gardens & Domain Trust in Sydney.
With degrees from both Oxford and Cambridge and 20 years as a Tutorial Fellow of Wadham College, Oxford, David Mabberley has had a distinguished botanical career in academia and is recognised as an eminent botanist, historian and authority on botanical art. Currently, he is an Emeritus Fellow, Wadham College, University of Oxford, and Extraordinary Professor at the University of Leiden, The Netherlands.
Among his many awards are the Peter Raven Award (by the American Society of Plant Taxonomists “to a plant systematist who has made successful efforts to popularize botany to non-scientists”) and the Linnean Medal of the Linnean Society of London.
David Mabberley is a prolific author with almost 300 publications including 17 books. The indispensable Mabberley’s Plant-Book is a classic botanical reference which gives an overview of the world’s flora (currently in its third edition) and Ferdinand Bauer: the nature of discovery published by Merrell Holberton & The Natural History Museum, London is the essential Bauer monograph.
