About the Alumni awards

The Flinders University Alumni Awards acknowledge the significant contribution made by Flinders graduates to the University, the community or within their chosen field, locally and overseas.

The awards include the prestigious Convocation Medal, the Distinguished Alumni Awards and our Early Career Alumni Awards. See below for more details on the three award categories.

Convocation Medal

The Convocation Medal was established in 1991 to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of Flinders University. The award recognises graduates of Flinders University who have made a substantial and outstanding contribution to the local, national and/or international community through one or more of the ways listed under the selection criteria.

Selection criteria

• Leadership in their field or profession
  
• The advancement of knowledge
  
• The advancement of professional practice
  
• Community service
  
  

Distinguished Alumni Awards

The former Alumni Association introduced Flinders University Distinguished Alumni Awards to coincide with the University’s 40th Anniversary in 2006. The Awards recognise alumni who have distinguished themselves in one or more of the ways listed under the selection criteria.

Selection criteria

• Contributions which have benefited Flinders University and/or the alumni community
• Contributions which have benefited the community - locally, nationally, or internationally
• Humanitarian services and contributions to society
• Professional achievements
• A significant role in a single incident or activity
• Services to the University (provided that such service is not the sole criterion or a mandatory criterion) in one of the areas identified above.

Early Career Alumni Award

New in 2020, the Early Career Alumni Award recognises graduates who are achieving great success early in their careers. Following are the selection criteria for the award:

• Are currently demonstrating significant contribution within their chosen field or to the community at a local, state, national or international level (either as part of their employment or in a voluntary/not-for-profit role).
• Eligible nominees for the Early Career Alumni Award must have had their Flinders University degree conferred during 2016 through to the current year and no earlier.
• As a minimum, have been awarded an undergraduate bachelor degree or higher qualification from the University.
