Flinders University awards Honorary degrees and the Companion of the University Award, to recognise individuals who have made a significant contribution to the University or the community.Â
The outstanding academic achievements of our students are acknowledged through the awarding of Flinders University medals, including the Ken Wanganeen Medal for an Indigenous student.
Rarely awarded, Flinders University Honorary degrees are presented to distinguished scholars in a field of academic endeavour in which the University is involved or has a direct interest. The degree of Doctor of the University is awarded to a person recognised for their extraordinary service to the public.
The award of Companion of the University allows the University to recognise in a public way the contributions of persons to the University and/or the community.
The award of Companion of the University allows the University to publicly recognise the contributions a person has made to the University and/or the community. The contribution is in the form of conspicuous and continued involvement in the promotion of the academic purposes of the University, fostering links between the University and other institutions, or representing the University's needs for resources for its growth and diversification and supply of such resources.
Flinders University Medals are awarded for outstanding academic achievement within each degree. The medals are presented at the recipient’s graduation ceremony for special acknowledgement in front of their peers, friends and family.
