Information on this page outlines Tonsley building access and facilities.
Tonsley is accessible to everyone between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday.
Staff and students can access the Tonsley building between 6am and 10pm Monday to Friday by using their swipe cards. If you require access outside these hours, you will need to use the ‘Access Approval Form’ and attach it to a Service One access request with approval from your supervisor. This includes access on public holidays.

Staff and PhD students with extended access permissions need to notify security. This will be recorded on the after-hours security register.
Outlined below are the facilities and services available to visitors, students and staff. View the student services available at Tonsley.
Tonsley has a fixed BBQ located on the outside of the north-west corner of the building, staff can book the BBQ via Outlook calendar – ‘Resource – TON_T1_BBQ’, individual students can book via the College of Science and Engineering and student groups can book via FUSA. Note: to arrange for power and gas to be turned on please raise a Service One request.
Please note: any food handling must adhere to the Mitcham Council event guidelines - Food Hygiene and Safety – Sausage Sizzles information sheet.
Student group events: A Temporary Food Stall application must be completed and sent to FUSA fusa@flinders.edu.au at least 2 weeks prior to the event, as per Mitcham Council guidelines.
All users: Please note, external catering companies must be registered contractors with Flinders University and hold the appropriate insurance. Please advise FUSA (students) fusa@flinders.edu.au or Concierge (staff) concierge.services@flinders.edu.au at least two weeks prior to the event if you intend to use an external catering company to ensure conditions are met.
There are first aid officers and two first aid kits per floor - placed at the southern end of the east and west corridors. There is also a first aid room on the ground floor. In case of emergency contact the Concierge and/or call 000.

Staff can request new key(s) or to arrange for the return of previously issued key(s) by raising a Service One request.
Access to restricted laboratories and workshops at Tonsley requires approval from the area manager/Laboratory Safety Supervisor (LSS).
If you require access to a restricted laboratory, workshop or after-hours access to any space you will need to complete the 'Access Approval Form' and have it signed by the relevant authority.

Free short-term hire lockers are located on Levels 1, 2, 3 and 4. To ensure your Student ID is valid and ready for locker access to be added complete the form below. When confirmation is received please see the Concierge for locker access to be added to your card.
You can validate your Student ID access using the below form. Lockers are allocated on a first-come-first-serve basis and must be emptied on the last Friday of every semester. Items retrieved from lockers by security after this time will go to lost property and owners will be contacted wherever possible.
Note: use of lockers is at the users own risk. Please report any issues to Security on 8201 2880.

Staff can log a request for maintenance by raising a Service One request. Students, visitors and contractors can report maintenance issues by emailing pfd@flinders.edu.au.
Staff can book meeting rooms using Outlook. Invite locations beginning with 'Room - Ton' to see the full list.
Students can request meeting rooms for study groups through the CSEM office.
If you need assistance with the operable walls in meeting rooms please raise a Service One request.
The Flinders at Tonsley Pod is a 2000sqm self-contained space positioned beneath the roofline of the original Mitsubishi Main Assembly Building. The Pod houses heavy engineering equipment used for teaching and research and a large hexapod (a mechanical unit used to test components such as aeroplane wings), as well as a purpose-built marine test tank.
Male and female prayer rooms are located on the ground floor of the Tonsley building. Both prayer rooms are next to the change rooms and showers, where foot-wash facilities are also available.
Please note Security patrol the premises regularly. To arrange for after hours building access or access to controlled areas please contact Security at Bedford Park.
Showers are available for use by staff and students.
Shower facilities are located directly to the left rear door entrance on the ground floor.
Access to showers and shower lockers using your ID card can be arranged via the Concierge.

The student lounge is located on level 1 of the Tonsley building and is open from 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday.

Tonsley has a large portable marquee available for hire, staff can book the marquee via Outlook calendar – ‘Resource – TON_T1_Marquee’, individual students can book via cse@flinders.edu.au and student groups can book via fusa@flinders.edu.au. Note: to arrange for the marquee including sandbags to be delivered to a designated location at Tonsley please raise a Service One request.
Please note: at least four people are required to erect the marquee safely. The marquee should be secured (tied or weighed down) at all times. The marquee should not be erected in high winds.
