Our aim is to be a hub for innovative health research, education and workforce development in the Northern Territory. All activities are driven by our values which focus on long-term and short-term needs of the NT community.
Â
Flinders NT delivers the Northern Territory Medical Program (NTMP), provides student placement and workforce capacity support through the Remote and Rural Interprofessional Placement Learning (RIPPL NT). Another key team is the Flinders NT Regional Training Hub, who in collaboration with stakeholders, is tasked to further develop capacity for NT medical specialist and rural generalist training thereby addressing workforce need. Flinders NT also encompasses the Centre for Remote Health which provides workforce development through postgraduate education (Remote Health Practice program), cultural awareness and other training and undertakes research, and the Poche Centre for Indigenous Health which focuses on capacity development of Indigenous leadership and the health workforce.
Flinders NT acknowledges that our sites across the Northern Territory are situated on Larrakia land (Darwin), Yolngu land (Nhulunbuy), Jawoyn land (Katherine), Warumungu land (Tennant Creek) and Arrernte land (Alice Springs). We are committed to working together with Indigenous people from across the NT to care for our shared future.
The Northern Territory Medical Program (NTMP) provides training to Flinders University and James Cook University medical students. We also coordinate placement opportunities and support for allied health students and interstate medical students.
The RIPPL NT team provide support and assistance to allied health and nursing students, their universities and clinical supervisors to maximise the outcomes of clinical placements in the Northern Territory.
Regional training hubs have been created to address medical workforce misdistribution through contributing to a ‘rural medical training pipeline’ that encompasses medical students, pre-vocational graduates, vocational trainees and, finally, rural generalist GPs and medical specialists. There are 26 new regional training hubs across rural Australia, including one in the Northern Territory, with sites in Darwin and Alice Springs.
The Centre for Remote Health is a University Department of Rural Health (UDRH) funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health under the Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training Programme to improve the health status of populations in rural and remote areas by appropriate preparation of the health workforce, thereby improving recruitment and retention levels.
Poche SA + NT is focused on building healthy country, healthy communities, and health leaders throughout the Australian central corridor, across the Northern Territory and South Australia.Â
