The Doctor of Medicine (MD) is offered in the Northern Territory (NT) through the NT Medical Program.
There are pathways for school leavers and graduates to complete their training in the NT.
The Flinders MD recognises and values the contribution that Indigenous knowledge and Indigenous doctors make to the health of our country. Our Indigenous and non-Indigenous staff will lead you to a greater understanding of this heritage and teach you how to work safely and confidently in a multicultural society.
We have a strong commitment to building the rural and remote health workforce by delivering innovative clinical placements. Medical students in the NT have the opportunity to undertake an entire year or more of study in a remote area.
In 2011, an inaugural group of 24 students enrolled in first year of the medical program at its brand new, purpose-built building at Charles Darwin University campus.
The NTMP has an administration centre and teaching rooms at the Royal Darwin Hospital, as well as established teaching sites in Alice Springs, Nhulunbuy, Katherine and Tennant Creek.
The NTMP prides itself on the quality of education provided to students and the support offered through the program to the medical and health workforce across the Territory.
Curriculum delivery is innovative using the latest technologies to ensure quality presentation in a variety of settings - from Flinders University in suburban Adelaide to Nhulunbuy, one of the most remote medical program sites in Australia.
The NTMP works closely with other Flinders NT initiatives including:
Northern Territory Government bonded medical places may be available and are associated with a four year Return of Service Obligation (ROSO) in the NT after graduation.

A major focus of the Northern Territory Medical Program is to attract Indigenous applicants who wish to study medicine in the NT.
Flinders recognises and values the contribution that Indigenous knowledge and Indigenous doctors make to the health of our country. Our Indigenous and non-Indigenous staff teach you how to work safely and confidently in a multicultural society.
If you’re a school leaver or do not have an academic record of study at university, you can apply for the undergraduate pathway into medicine.
In the NT, the Bachelor of Clinical Sciences/Doctor of Medicine includes two years based at Charles Darwin University and then the four-year Flinders MD.
