Anatomy and Physiology

Who should attend?

Pathways into Flinders University Awards: Successful completion of this course can be used to demonstrate the prerequisite knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology required for entry into the Bachelor of Nursing (Graduate Entry) degree.

Course content

The topic covers the human organ systems in detail (in particular, the integumentary, musculoskeletal, endocrine, nervous, cardiovascular, renal, gastro-intestinal, and respiratory). In addition, some chemical and physical science principles applied to the body are introduced where appropriate. This topic will provide the student with a strong general background knowledge of both anatomy and physiology.

Assessment

Over the course of study, participants will be asked to complete 12 modules. At the end of each module participants will be required to complete a short quiz to assess their knowledge of the module. A grade of 80% or higher in the quiz will provide access to the next module. Participants are provided with electronic copies of the course study guide and readings. Access to a computer and the internet is required.

Learning outcomes

• Identify and describe gross anatomical structures in the human body systems using appropriate scientific terminology
• Demonstrate understanding of basic normal physiology of body systems
• Apply the understanding of physical science to applicable body systems
• Demonstrate concise scientific communication skills in the areas of anatomy and physiology
• Record, analyse and present the results from performing practical laboratory exercises.

Pathways in to Flinders University Awards

Credit

On successful completion of the course, students will receive a Certificate of Achievement including a list of topics covered in the course. While this certificate is not a formal qualification or credit, it can be used to demonstrate interest in learning about this area to potential employers or educational institutions.
