High-Pressure Leadership

Leading people in high pressure situations is an essential skill for effective leadership in current and future environments. This course prepares you to be an effective leader by introducing you to various established approaches to successfully lead in high pressure situations. Understanding your key strengths, developing a high-pressure crisis leadership development plan, and learning how to lead people in high-pressure times with grit, wisdom and composure are the hallmarks of this course.

Who should attend?

All professionals who are working in mid, senior level supervisory, leadership positions across any organisation.


Course content

Today, no business organisation is immune from volatility. For the foreseeable future, all organisations and their leadership are going to be under immense pressure to get their business back on track given COVID - 19. Leaders can either make or break, successfully navigate, or buckle under pressure. This course on high-pressure leadership trains leaders to use adversity as an opportunity for growth.

Topic 1: High-pressure leadership

Learn what is high-pressure leadership and its importance.

Topic 2: Your crisis leadership style

Learn how one handles crisis and high-pressure situations at work and assess distinct crisis leadership styles.

Topic 3: Key strategies for leading people during high-pressure times

Learn how to develop key strategies to lead, communicate and manage people during high-pressure crisis times.

Topic 4: High-pressure crisis leadership development plan

Identify one’s strength, areas for improvement and develop a high-level crisis leadership development plan to manage current & future high-pressure situations at work.

Learning outcomes

  • An understanding of how one handles crisis and high-pressure situations at work.
  • An understanding of one’s crisis leadership style.
  • Insights in developing key strategies to lead during times of increased pressure at work.
  • Inputs in developing a crisis management plan.
  • Preparing a high-pressure crisis leadership development plan.

Assessment

The course includes milestone activities which are designed to develop your skills and knowledge in each topic.

Your facilitators will review each milestone activity with you as you progress through the course.

To achieve mastery of the course you must adequately demonstrate completion of all milestone activities as specified in the Topic Guide, which includes the preparation of a high-pressure leadership development plan. Students that demonstrate completion of all milestone activities are eligible to receive a certificate for this course.

Course requirements

As your learning will be conducted online, it is recommended that you use a computer with these capabilities:

  • access to the internet
  • a webcam and microphone
  • capable of running the current versions of any modern browser such as Google Chrome, Firefox.

Rajesh Johnsam

As a lecturer in the Flinders Business Team, Rajesh brings his expertise as a Training & Development Consultant, having trained managers and leaders across different industry sectors over a period of 10 years.

He has been instrumental in bringing change in the human behaviour within organisations through life-changing programs including EI (Emotional Intelligence) training, leadership skills development and other motivational skills programs.  He has coached and trained professionals in leadership positions and have been part of successful change management programs in helping leaders to manage crisis and high-pressure situations.

Rajesh has a PhD in Organisational Behaviour and Leadership, Masters in Psychology and Communication and an MBA in Human Resource Management. He conducts research in leadership and human behaviour in organisations and has published in prestigious journals. As a researcher, consultant and an academic, Rajesh is both an impactful trainer and an academic capable of bringing life changing experiences in the lives of the professionals.

Vipul Pare

Dr Vipul Pare is a Senior Lecturer and Teaching Program Director of Flinders Business at the College of Business, Government and Law. Dr Pare has an extensive experience in leadership, teaching, research and academic administration.

As a Teaching Program Director, he is responsible for quality assurance and smooth running of all the undergraduate and postgraduate degrees offered at Flinders Business.

His leadership role involves leading the course coordinators as well as topic coordinators in full suite of business degrees and providing support to Vice President & Executive Dean, Dean (Education) and Dean (People and Resources) in strategic matters as well as implementation plans.

Flinders University reserves the right to cancel any scheduled course. In the event of a cancellation, students will be notified two days before the scheduled start date and refunds will be provided. Classes are subject to sufficient enrolment numbers.

A full refund is available for requests received earlier than 30 October 2020. No refund will be made if notice of cancellation is made after 30 October 2020. All cancellations must be in writing.
