Rehabilitation of Degenerative Neurological Disorders

Health professionals working or interested in working in clinical rehabilitation.

Course content

This one-day workshop will examine the latest evidence promoting rehabilitation for those with a degenerative neurological condition, with particular focus on multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease.

Recent research regarding the disease processes and rehabilitation for this population will be explored, and the course will address the effects of fatigue upon mobility and function.

Learning outcomes

• Increase understanding of the principles and processes of rehabilitation and management options for rehabilitation as they apply to a person who has a degenerative neurological condition.
• Develop the skills required to plan a rehabilitation program for a person who has a degenerative neurological condition based on the evidence available.
• Describe the aetiology and clinical presentation of MS, Parkinsons Disease and MND, and review the current guidelines and interventions used in such conditions.
• Discuss the psychosocial impact of a neurodegenerative condition and how this can influence function and rehabilitation.

CPD and Credits

Participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance at the completion of the workshop.
