Health professionals working or interested in working in clinical rehabilitation.

Course content

This course examines the advances in neuroscientific research regarding stroke and explores key issues that impact upon functional recovery following stroke. Spatial neglect, communication, and cognitive and motor rehabilitation will be discussed, as well as innovative technological approaches to enhance service delivery.

Learning outcomes

• Make recommendations related to best practice in stroke rehabilitation based on available evidence.
• Plan on-going care for the person who has had a stroke.
• Review the current Stroke Guidelines and discuss how they can be implemented into clinical practice.
• Discuss the impact of cognitive/behavioural dysfunction on the ongoing rehabilitation of a person with stroke.
• Discuss factors that can influence community living for a person with stroke, including mobility, communication and driving, and the challenges this creates for therapy services.
• Discuss innovative approaches to therapy including telerehabilitation and virtual reality.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

Participants will be eligible to earn CPD points for professional association and registration requirements.
