Our collective of multi-disciplinary researchers explore:
FHMRI Neuroscience provides a dynamic training environment for postgraduate research students, and for undergraduate students in health, science and social sciences.
Our research employs a wide range of state-of-the-art research strategies in neuroscience to study the following:
— Neurochemical signals
— Neural circuits
— Behaviour
— Sensory physiology
— Homeostasis
— Chronic pain
— Alzheimer’s disease
— Childhood dementia
— Motor neuron disease
— Brain cancer
— Biospecimens
— Biomarkers
— Therapies
— Devices
— Immunisation
FHMRI Neuroscience provides a dynamic training environment for postgraduate research students, and for undergraduate students in health, science, and social sciences. We provide placements for undergraduate students, as well as honours, medicine advanced studies, Masters and PhD research projects.
We partner with the Health Sector, Not-for-profits, Family support organisations, Government and Commercial entities to translate our neuroscience.
Karin Nordstrom is a Professor in Neuroscience and an Australian Research Council Future Fellow. She is interested in motion vision and uses hoverflies to understand the neural mechanisms underlying sensory selectivity. She is particularly interested in how insects, with small nervous systems and poor spatial resolution compound eyes, are able to respond robustly to small targets moving rapidly across cluttered backgrounds. She is passionate about community engagement and the importance of curiosity-driven science.
