New Alchemists
17 February - 15 April 2018
Flinders University City Gallery
State Library of South Australia
North Terrace | Adelaide
New Alchemists explores ideas of futuristic biologies and post-human trysts within the nexus of art and science. Paralleling artists as contemporary alchemists, the works by Australian and International practitioners convey experiences beyond our known and plausible realities.
With the notion of ‘life’ continually challenged and redefined by advancing new technologies, New Alchemists investigates the growing perceptual disconnect between the machinic and the visceral. The nominated works present playful, abstruse and provocative narratives that collapse our sense of familiarity and embodied otherness with the world around us.
