Student Networking and Inter-Professional Sessions (SNIPS) are relaxed sessions to learn and meet students from other universities and disciplines.
SNIPS are held regularly in Alice Springs in Central Australia and Darwin in the Top End. If you are located in Tennant Creek, Nhulunbuy or Katherine, you can present or participate via videoconference.
SNIPS Central Australia (Alice Springs)
SNIPS (Central Australia) is held regularly in Alice Springs.
Visit the Centre for Remote Health website for more details.
SNIPS Top End (Darwin)
SNIPS (Top End) is held fortnightly in the Flinders University building at Royal Darwin Hospital. Come along for tea or coffee and listen to speakers talk about their profession or experience in the Northern Territory. Bookings are not required.
These sessions also provide a forum for students who would are required to do presentations for their placement or who would like to share their own experiences.
Email the placement team at FNT.placements@flinders.edu.au if you are interested in presenting at one of these sessions, or to receive notification of future sessions.
Aboriginal culture is diverse and varies across Australia and between Northern Territory communities.
Flinders NT deliver free introductory workshops for students in Central Australia (Alice Springs) and the Top End (Darwin), which cover working with Aboriginal clients in the local context of clinical health services delivery.
There are multiple factors that influence the overall health and well-being in the Aboriginal population in Australia. Understanding these factors can contribute to better health outcomes for Aboriginal clients as health practitioners use more culturally safe, secure and holistic frameworks.
A one day Introduction to Central Australian Aboriginal Cultures and Context is held regularly in Alice Springs.
Visit the Centre for Remote Health website for more details.
Participants
Participants in this workshop will come from diverse backgrounds and will have had varied exposure to Aboriginal health curricula, teaching and cultural experiences.
Participants with little or no Aboriginal health teaching are encouraged to review the pre-reading content. This information is provided to students who have registered in the training.
Workshop content
These sessions at the Royal Darwin Hospital campus explore the topic of working with Aboriginal clients in the context of clinical health services. As a result of the workforce diversity in the NT, the workshop will not focus on any one discipline. Students from all health disciplines and backgrounds are encouraged to attend and work through clinical conundrums which can be applied to respective work settings.
Participants are encouraged to contribute to the workshops through the sharing of experiences, by asking questions and through respectful discussion of topics and scenarios.

Workshops are held once a month in Darwin and dates are coordinated with students arriving in the region. To book or enquire about the next workshop, contact:

My four years studying medicine trained me really well for working as a doctor, in terms of clinical technique and knowledge, and also in skilful interpersonal communication with patients and colleagues. My training at Flinders prepared me well for my work as a junior doctor and for specialist and sub-specialist training in paediatric ophthalmology.
Graduates from the Bachelor of Creative Arts (Enterprise) program will be equipped to take on the world of culture and creativity because they will have learned not only how to derive the best of the fields of creative arts and business and innovation but also how to forecast changes in the industry and position themselves ahead of the curve.
As a full-time Director and Teacher, flexibility was extremely important when choosing my Masters degree. With only a few key deadlines and no set class times (e.g. lectures), I studied at my own pace and when it suited me. Flinders Library also offers a ‘Send It’ service so any books that I needed were couriered out to me within a day or so. Teachers were easily accessed and very responsive, while the online community was a fantastic place to connect with like-minded educators.
The Northern Territory (NT) provides learning opportunities in diverse communities for hundreds of allied health and nursing students each year.
Placement sites vary from remote clinics and practices to large tertiary hospitals, and from isolated desert communities to the multi-cultural centres of Darwin and Alice Springs.
