The field of forensic science spans a wide range of scientific disciplines, giving you the opportunity to explore areas including molecular biology, spectroscopy and data analysis, separation science, and chemical criminalistics.
You’ll learn how to perform both physical and chemical analyses on evidence like material, and develop practical skills that will help you analyse and identify evidence such as illicit drugs, human body fluids, and trace evidence such as textile fibres, gun-shot residues and glass.
Challenging and rewarding, a career in forensic science will see you applying scientific methods to help solve crimes.
Forensic and Analytical Science at Flinders
Undertake one of two streams. Forensic and analytical chemistry combines the practices of analytical chemistry and forensic investigation. Forensic biology uses aspects of life sciences to examine biological material in a forensic context. The degree weaves core analytical skills with the principles, knowledge and practices of forensic biology and forensic chemistry.
Throughout your studies, you’ll develop a diverse set of scientific skills to prepare you for a range of career opportunities. Combined with a wide range of flexible electives to allow you to pursue your interests such as chemical sciences, nanotechnology and more.
Gain hands-on experience in our laboratories and undertake practical research in the field. There are opportunities to carry out honours research with an industry partner such as Forensic Science SA, South Australian Police or the Defence Science Technology Group.
