The Factory of the Future will deliver a world-class, reconfigurable advanced manufacturing test bed, training and industry growth facility – the first of its kind in Australia.
Aside from the thousands of jobs created, about 250 companies will be involved in the facility, benefiting from collaborations with research expertise and opportunities to integrate into domestic and international value chains.
Defence products generally do not have quantities that typically warrant automation for cost reduction alone. Therefore, the problem the project seeks to address is how to apply digital and automation technologies into very complex, high value manufactured products within BAE Systems Maritime Australia.
The research will focus on the integration of human factors and advanced manufacturing technologies. This includes the cultural interaction with technology and the physical connection between humans and machines.

AITI will work alongside Advanced Focus to deliver an Industry 4.0 Transition Plan for BAE Systems focused on their Joint Strike Fighter supply chain capability and performance improvements. Specifically, AITI will provide expertise and advice on digital transformation and the successful adoption of technologies. Challenges associated with the implementation of the technology related to disruptive aspects of infrastructure and cultural change will be captured and addressed.
