Ready for a new era of digital workplaces?
Artificial intelligence is set to disrupt every industry in the world. Automation of jobs can improve outputs and has the capacity to reduce costs but how much do we know about the impact it will have on job satisfaction? Are we prepared for the transition of workers into new roles? And how can we protect business and people from data security risks?
We are entering a period of rapid workplace technological advances defined by big data, autonomous robots, simulation, augmented reality, cyber security, system integration and remote workplaces. As we design new industry innovations, we need to consider how we can adapt our work, manage threats and bridge the gap between the physical and digital world.
Through research, we are predicting, influencing and preparing for the workplace of tomorrow.
Collaborative robots – cobots – will work alongside people in the new era of workplace automation. This will change the working landscape for young people beginning employment.
We are conducting research specific to TAFE students and exploring the relationship between age, technology, safety and job satisfaction in those moving into the workforce. Through research we are building a better understanding of work and safety implications for the next generation of workers.
Researchers:
Our researchers are working with industry partners BAE Systems to deliver Industry 4.0 techniques to the world’s largest defence program, the Joint Strike Fighter.
We are working on supply chain digitisation that allows partners to see progress in real time and help identify and resolve issues faster.
Transitioning to new technology also has potential workplace culture and infrastructure disruptions and our research is interested in introducing productive innovations while minimising the impact on business.
Researchers:
In recent years, South Australia has experienced significant decreases in manufacturing jobs. At the same time, projections show a growing demand for new assistive technologies for the health, aged care and disability sectors.
Our research is looking at job growth opportunities in the development of assistive technology and how we could transition manufacturing businesses and workers coule transition to this new and growing product.
