Experience the community and convenience of living on-campus. With a five-minute walk to your classes, a tight-knit family and fun extracurriculars, there are plenty of reasons to live at Flinders University. We have a safe, supportive and dynamic community of over 550 students.
We’re not just the only South Australian university with on-campus accommodation in the Adelaide metro area. We’re also 20 minutes by bus or train from the city and some of Adelaide’s best metropolitan beaches. Plus we have many great eateries and services on campus.
No matter your interests, you’ll find something you love from the range of social, sporting, academic, cultural and philanthropic activities on offer.
Flinders Living offers two experiences: the catered, collegiate-style University Hall and the self-contained units of Deirdre Jordan Village. Our community is made up of 65% students from Australian rural and metropolitan areas and 35% international students from over 20 countries.
On-campus accommodation
University Hall is a catered collegiate residence with a strong collegial atmosphere. The Hall has accommodation for over 200 students in fully furnished single rooms, has secure storage and car parking and small communal kitchens. You can mix with other students in common areas, sporting areas, gazebos and gardens including a landscaped central courtyard.
Deirdre Jordan Village provides accommodation for over 350 residents in self-catered, fully-equipped units. It has landscaped gardens, BBQ areas, secure storage and car parking. The Village also offers a range of culturally inclusive activities in the Community Centre for those who wish to develop a strong community atmosphere. Single gender accommodation is also available.
The social life of the Village is focussed in the Community Centre, a large common space comprising a well-equipped recreation area, study spaces, and music room. During the year, events such as games nights, quiz nights, community dinners, photography competition and other activities help bring residents together. There are also BBQ areas and outdoor spaces where residents can gather.
A big part of uni life is making friends and enjoying your time at Flinders. Hall residents become members of the Flinders University Hall Residents’ Club, which is a member of the South Australian Association of University College Clubs (SAAUCC). SAAUCC brings together residents of Aquinas, Lincoln, St. Ann’s and St. Mark’s Colleges (all located in North Adelaide) with Flinders University Hall for a busy sporting, social and cultural program of events and activities.
When you arrive (and even before) you’ll find that there are plenty of support staff and student leaders happy to help you move into your accommodation, settle in, and get involved in Orientation Week (O’Week) activities. During this time we’ll help you build a strong support network that will help you as your adjust to your new environment, find your classes, participate in a wide range of events and, most importantly, make new friends from all over the world.
Our support team will assist you to locate support from either within Flinders Living or from the wide range of student service providers across campus.
Let’s face it, sometimes being at uni can be tough. Within our residential communities there are student leaders called residential tutors (Hall) or residential coordinators (Village) who are available to offer you support whether it be a personal matter of concern, an issues that may have arisen in one of your topics, pre-exam stress,
There is always a staff member available (including after hours and weekends) if you are in need of urgent medical assistance, wish to report a critical maintenance issue in your room or unit, or are concerned for your welfare or that of a fellow resident.
Our Deputy Principal, an accredited mental health social worker, coordinates our student support programs.
Flinders Living has been awarded Skilled Workplace status at the Gold Level by Mental Health First Aid Australia. This award celebrates organisations investing in developing mental health first aid skills in their people and demonstrating a strong commitment to embedding the program into their organisations’ culture. All of Flinders Living’s professional services staff together with our Residential Tutors and Coordinators are registered Mental Health First Aiders.
James Atkinson is the Principal, Flinders Living providing leadership and management of University Hall and Deirdre Jordan Village. James has postgraduate qualifications in public administration, higher education and student affairs, and management. He has worked in residential colleges and halls in Queensland, New South Wales and the United States of America for thirty years. Together with his wife and three children, James lives in the Principal’s Residence located adjacent to University Hall.
Andrea Rohde is the Deputy Principal and is the senior staff member with responsibility for student welfare and support. A registered Mental Health Social Worker with over 20 years of experience as a practitioner, Andrea coordinates the Division’s student development and support programmes, providing our students with appropriate referrals to service providers either within the University or externally where appropriate.
Each year, following a competitive selection process, the University appoints a team of Residential Tutors (University Hall) and Residential Coordinators (Deirdre Jordan Village). For residents, these are your “go to” people. They support the residents within their area of responsibility to settle in, connect with fellow residents, and participate in a wide range of community-based activities.
In the Hall, all residents are members of the Flinders University Hall Residents’ Club, Incorporated. Each year, the Hall residents elect a House Committee of their peers to manage the affairs of the Club. The House Committee includes the President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, First Year Representatives, International Student Representative and Sports, Social, Arts, Publicity, Transport, Technical and Merchandise, and Catering Officers.
Anchor is another residents’ club within the Hall, the goal of which is to increase cultural events and inclusivity within the residential community. The club has an executive of three elected members and other students from year levels, interests and backgrounds.
In the Village, coordination of social, sporting and cultural activities is undertaken by the Residential Coordinator Team.
The O'Week programs for University Hall and Deirdre Jordan Village run parallel to the campus-wide orientation program. Our programs include a broad range of information sessions, social and sporting activities and events to ensure your first week living on-campus is both informative and fun.
If you're unsure whether you would prefer catered or self-catered accommodation, read on for more details.
If you would like catered accommodation you will live in our collegiate-style residence, University Hall.
Our dining room serves three meals (breakfast, packed lunch, dinner) Mondays through Fridays. Toast, spreads and beverages are offered throughout the day.
Our residents live busy lives on the weekends so our dining room is closed. They may be off-campus playing sport, working part-time jobs, visiting family or friends, or heading into the city or to the beach. Sometimes, they even like to sleep in late. This being the case, they like the freedom of being able to source their own meals whether this be wherever they are off-campus. If they are in the Hall on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, our residents will cook for themselves using the well-equipped kitchenettes conveniently located down the corridor in each area.
Our weekly food cost is currently $122.00 per week (including GST) which translates to around $8.13 for each of those 15 meals.
That’s exceptional value for money. Think about how much time it would take you to plan your weekly meals, go out and purchase your ingredients, cook them up and, don’t forget, do the washing up! In the Hall this is all done for you!
Our residents really appreciate the service provided by our catering partners CaterCare Australia. Here’s what some of our residents told us earlier in the year:
If you would like to cater for yourself you’ll live in either a two or three-bedroom townhouse or a three, five or six bedroom unit. You’ll share the common kitchen space with your unit mates and be expected to contribute equally to the cleaning.
You may prefer the self-catered style if you really enjoy cooking for yourself or with your unit mates, have significant allergies which may be more difficult to manage in a larger setting, or will be spending significant time away from campus at meal times.
It’s a lifestyle that gives you a little more independence and freedom when it comes to your meals.
Being a Flinders Living resident entitles you to free membership of Flinders Sport and Fitness for 12 months valued at $199.00. The arrangement runs from 1 February, 2021 to 31 January, 2022.

The cost of on-campus parking is in additional to residents’ accommodation fees.
