TOP ADVICE FROM CURRENT STUDENTS
Top tips from Flinders students to their younger selves.
We put out the call and asked current Flinders students one simple question:
“What advice would you give to your 17-18 year-old self?”
Here’s what they said.
Samantha L: Don’t stress too much about your ATAR – there are different pathways available to you.
Alex M: Your ATAR isn’t the end of the world! Just because you didn’t get the score you wanted doesn’t mean you aren’t good enough! You can do a foundations studies course first that sets you up more in the long run! Also, you can apply as mature age.
Leslee M: Work experience… even if it’s not part of your degree, find it!
Alex W: Do as many work placements and as much work experience during your studies as you can.
We offer one-on-one appointments with our prospective student team to discuss career options, pathways, and course and entry requirements.

Open Days 365 offers a range of ways to find out everything you need to know about study at Flinders.
Georgina B: Generally, if you make an effort to do the work, act engaged in class and try to actively participate in discussion and do the readings, your time will be much more enjoyable and your lecturers and course coordinators will go the extra mile for you if you need help.
Nicole E: Try to forge good study habits in first year and go to every class.
Chantelle M: If you think you need help, don’t wait until you’ve hit rock bottom. There’s no shame in asking for help early.
Kate M: Don’t be afraid of your tutors. This isn’t high school, and it is their job to help you or tell you where you can get help.
Simon H: The only thing faster than the speed of light is the speed of self-doubt. Year 12 is one year of your life and not the most important one.
Helen J: Don’t stress about where you think you should be. 99% of people will deviate from their plan completely and end up right where they are meant to be.
