Her passion for the business of wine, spirits and tourism runs deep. Having been the Director of the Master of Science in Wine Business at the Dijon Bourgogne School of Wine and Spirits in France and now Director of the Flinders MBA – Roberta brings her passion to life in her work every day.
“I have a special interest in wine and business, evidenced by my career and I can see we’re on the cusp of a new era in wine right now”, she explains. “All of these elements together sparked an interest in launching a new and unique course that takes in all elements of the value chain, that can be taken online or on campus.”
Roberta’s teaching and thought leadership in the industry are renowned. At Flinders Roberta provides academic leadership and teaching in management, human resource management, and marketing. Roberta’s current research focus is on consumer behaviour respective to wine, more specifically the drivers of premium purchase decisions," she explains. She also researches country of origin effects, the power of non-intrinsic product cues to influence perceptions of product and service quality and the development of online strategies and social media to build brand attachment.
Professor Ulrich Orth
Chair of Marketing – Consumer Psychology, Kiel University, Germany
Part-time Lecturer at IMC Krems and Eisenstadt University in Austria.
Professor and Chair of Marketing – Consumer Psychology at Kiel University, he has also held positions at the Oregon State University in the US, Mendel University in the Czech Republic and at the Munich University of Technology in Germany. He has a passion for research into buyer behaviour and psychology, specifically consumer-brand relations, package design, retailing, experiential marketing, and cross-cultural issues. Ulrich has 23 years’ experience in applied wine marketing research and has consulted with numerous wine industry organizations and individual businesses in Australia, Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, France, Oregon, and Washington, amongst others.
Ulrich has presented over 120 times at national and international academic and practitioner conferences, and has published over 220 articles in trade and academic outlets including the Journal of Advertising, Journal of Marketing, Journal of Service Research, Journal of Retailing, Journal of Business Research, Journal of International Marketing, International Journal of Research in Marketing, Psychology & Marketing.
As an internationally recognized expert, Ulrich serves on the editorial boards of the European Journal of Marketing (Associate Editor) and Journal of Business Research (Area Reviewer) and is past editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Wine Business Research.
Dr Albert Franz Stöckl
Program Director International Wine Business. University of Applied Sciences, FH KREMS, Austria
Albert Stöckl is the Director of the English-speaking Bachelor Program “International Wines Business” at the IMC Krems University of Applied Sciences (Austria). He studied Wine Economy and Marketing at Heilbronn University of Applied Sciences (Germany). After that, he completed a European double degree Master program in Tourism Management at Bournemouth University (England) and Université de Savoie (France). His experiences in the wine and tourism industry include employments, internships and seasonal work in Austria, Germany, France, Italy, Great Britain and Sweden.
Albert finished his PhD at CAU in 2015. His thesis topic is “Synergistic Relationships between Wine and Tourism: Antecedents and Consequences of Consumer Emotional Attachments to Regional Wine Brands”.
Gill Gordon-Smith IWE is a VIA Italian wine expert, artisan producer, retailer, writer, judge and educator based in Australia’s McLaren Vale Region but also works internationally. With Diplomas in Training Design and Development as well as Vocational Education and Training she is a WSET Certified Educator ,worked with Qantas Airways developing the renowned Sommelier in the Sky Program, presents internationally for Wine Australia and VIA and co-ordinates the Wine and Spirit School TAFE SA .
Gill has been involved in educator training and mentoring programs for many years including the WSET Educator Training, leads the Vinitaly Academy Educator program and is part of the Wine Communicators Australia mentor program. Passionate about Italian Grapes and Wine she makes wine from Italian grape varieties in McLaren Vale. She is Wine Communicators Australia 2017 Educator of The Year and 2017 Australian Wine Communicator of the Year.
Carla Dias Wadewitz

Lecturer in Innovation & Enterprise for Flinders University andresponsible for Flinders New Venture Institute programs such as FOMENT (Wine and Tourism Technology) and the Innovative Manufacturing Accelerator (Business Model Innovation using Industry 4.0/5.0 tools), Carla combines the knowledge of business, finance and technology with her experience with start-ups and SMEs in Australia, Europe, Asia and the US. She has lectured in entrepreneurship at some of Europe’s top business schools such as Catolica Lisbon School of Business and Economics, delivered innovation and acceleration programs on tourism technology such as Discoveries and Tourism Explorers, consulted for the United Nations and the South Australian Government and has spent more than 10 years in investment banking in private equity, venture capital and corporate finance roles.
Carla has an MBA from the University of New South Wales, a Diploma from the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Python programming course with MIT and a Diploma on Machine Learning for Executives with the University of Adelaide.
As an experienced wine and spirits CEO from South Australia, Andrew leads his own consultancy business from the Riverland region in South Australia located east of the Barossa Valley. He was the Managing Director of Rivawine Collaboration Pty Ltd and CEO of Australian Vignerons, Australia’s national association of wine grape growers, and has held board and technical positions in the industry. He was a key player in the industry consultation that led to reform of the wine equalisation tax legislation, and consults for wine grape growers, irrigators, and some of the leading 937 wineries from South Australia, a state which is responsible for almost 50% of Australia’s annual production.
Andrew earned a Bachelor of Agricultural Science in Viticulture and Horticulture from the University of Adelaide.
Dr. Laura Lesar is a Senior Lecturer at the College of Business, Government and Law. Laura holds a Ph.D in Sustainable Tourism from Griffith University, a Master’s of Science in Travel Industry Management from the University of Hawaii, Mānoa, and a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies (Honors) from the University of California, Santa Cruz. A fusion of her multi-disciplinary background, Laura specialises in the quality control tools that translate sustainability, resiliency, and adaptability ideals into tourism practice. In addition to a state-of-the articulation of these tools, Laura’s current research endeavors relate to wine tourism, sustainable destination management, and the social impacts of tourism. Laura’s research can be found in leading tourism journals including the Journal of Travel Research and Journal of Sustainable Tourism. Laura is also an Editorial Board Member of the Journal of Travel Research.
