Please note that due to COVID-19 restrictions many lectures are now being delivered online and are not available in face-to-face format. As a result, the opportunity to audit topics is very limited. Prior to applying to audit a topic, please contact Flinders Connect via AskFlinders to confirm that auditing is available for the topic you are interested in.
At Flinders University we pride ourselves on the quality of teaching and we trust that your auditing experience will be both informative and enjoyable. Auditing opportunities exist across a wide range of subject areas.
Auditing allows you to attend lectures for a particular topic. Auditing a topic does not include attendance at tutorials or laboratory classes. Use of the University’s computing facilities and access to web-based learning materials available to enrolled students of the University are not available when auditing a topic. Auditing does not award a participation certificate and cannot be counted as credit towards a topic in an award course at the University.
Not all topics can be audited. Topics that are delivered as seminars, workshops, via distance education, online, involve a field trip/research work/professional experience placement component, have online lectures or do not have lectures, are not available for auditing. Some postgraduate topics are also not available to audit.
All auditable topics require permission from the topic coordinator to attend lectures. You can find timetable information, topic unit values and Topic Coordinator details on the topic information website. View contact details for topic coordinators on the Staff Directory.
The following topics are not permitted to be audited despite having a lecture component:
An auditing fee applies per topic. Approved 4.5 unit topics cost $55.00 (inc GST) to audit. However, approved LAW topics cost $100.00 (inc GST) per unit (ie, 4.5 unit topics in LAW will cost $450.00 each).
Whilst auditing a topic you can borrow books from the University library for an additional fee of $55.00 (inc GST) for a 6 month library membership. This will entitle you to borrow up to 20 books at a time. Please go to the information desk in the Central Library during business hours to obtain a library card once you have made payment at Flinders Connect and received a receipt.
Browse our topic offerings, timetable information and obtain topic coordinator details on the topic information website.
Download and complete the audit application form (PDF). Ensure the topic coordinator has signed the form.
