Study Maritime Engineering at Flinders
Make waves in the maritime engineering industry.
Prepare to become a professional engineer in the maritime engineering industry. You’ll learn to design and manage the building of maritime vehicles, coastal engineering projects, port and harbour facilities, and offshore oil and gas installations. The first two years of the degree provide a common entry pathway to specialise in naval architecture, ocean engineering, or marine and offshore systems.
Students completing this degree will graduate from both Flinders University and the University of Tasmania.

Professional accreditation/recognition
All our Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Engineering degrees are accredited by Engineers Australia at the level of professional engineer. Professional engineering courses accredited by Engineers Australia are recognised internationally under the Washington Accord. Graduates meet the academic requirements for attaining chartered professional engineering status.
This course is also recognised by the Royal Institution of Naval Architects and the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology.

Practical experience
The degree provides you with practical experience that prepares you for the workforce.
- Undertake practical work on-board a maritime vessel.
- Complete a professional work placement with a maritime engineering company as part of your studies.
- Develop practical skills in mechanics and structures, ship design, hydrostatics and fluid mechanics, thermodynamics and energy engineering.
What you'll need
This course involves practical work on board a maritime vessel. It is an Australian Maritime Safety Authority requirement that students undertake a medical assessment and have a valid Elements of Shipboard Safety certificate prior to going to sea. This certificate will be arranged at the commencement of the third year of study.

If you don’t meet our English language entry requirements and need to improve your English language proficiency, you can do so through our approved English Language Instruction Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) providers.
This means that you can attend the required English language tuition at approved ELICOS providers and gain direct entry into university without an IELTS or TOEFL test.
If you don’t meet our academic entry requirements, you can still gain entry to Flinders University through academic pathways programs provided by the Flinders International Study Centre.
