Understand Christianity in the religious and secular worlds.
People from both religious and non-religious backgrounds study theology. Theology explores the history, development, and practice of Christian communities and scholars around the world. The Theology major combines biblical studies with components of church history, synoptic studies, and topics relating to contemporary culture.
Throughout the major you will examine how the Christian tradition operates in contemporary religious and secular contexts, particularly in Australia. The major develops your critical thinking, skills in reading and responding to texts, and the communication skills to present your ideas to a range of different audiences. A religious background is not a requirement of studying theology, and you will learn not only how faith-based communities have operated and adapted, but how these traditions are alive today in different social, political, and cultural aspects of Australian life.
