The Doctor of Public Health is a higher degree by research that comprises a combination of coursework and research. It offers an alternative to the PhD and was developed in line with international trends, specifically for professionals, practitioners and leaders in public health and development wanting to undertake or return to research.
The course is scaffolded to provide candidates with specialist topics on research methods, theory and epistemology and assist them to develop their project, and the research skills and knowledge necessary to undertake doctoral level research. It is expected that graduates of this award will: make an original, sustained, critical contribution to knowledge in public health research, policy, practice or management; and develop the ability to integrate and apply the multidisciplinary skills and knowledge that are required to progress public health policy, management and practice.
The Doctor of Public Health equips its graduates to undertake a variety of advanced professional roles in public health, community development and human services in a range of global settings.
