The JD is a pathway to legal practice as a barrister and solicitor in a range of settings, including law firms, in-house counsel and community legal centres. Graduates are also highly competitive in a range of other careers outside of law including government, commerce, consulting and advising, public administration, social justice and human rights, as leaders across the globe.
This course is accredited by the Legal Practitioners Education and Admission Council in South Australia and is recognised in other Australian states and territories.
The JD comprises compulsory topics which cover the prescribed academic areas of knowledge required for admission to the legal profession. These topics develop legal problem-solving skills and practical capabilities, including the following broad areas: legal analysis and problem solving, contracts, corporations law, dispute resolution, torts, property law, equity and trusts, criminal law, evidence, and constitutional law.
The course includes a compulsory clinical legal education topic that will provide you with an opportunity to participate in authentic legal work.
I was attracted to the flexibility of the Juris Doctor’s online delivery which allows me to study from anywhere and successfully manage work, family and study. The quality of teaching and innovative approach at Flinders law was also a major drawcard. In the Clinical Legal Education topic, we were given the opportunity to prepare submissions to the Australian Human Rights Commission based on ethical issues in relation to driverless vehicles, a very obvious disruptive technology requiring new legal solutions to protect our human rights. The JD really equips you with the knowledge and skills tackle the legal challenges of the future!
