The program helps you develop specialised knowledge, skills and attributes for application in a range of primary health care nursing environments. Topics cover areas such as primary health care constructs and contexts; social context of health and ageing; introduction to working with infants, children and families; health management for infants, children and young people; diabetes management; community and primary health care nursing; and an observational professional experience placement.
You will have the opportunity to undertake an observational professional experience placement (PEP) in a South Australian primary healthcare setting. This will enable you to contextualise care in Australia and exchange information about nursing practices in their country of origin.
The Graduate Diploma in Nursing (Primary Health Care) consists of 36 units, including a 4.5-unit topic that provides an introduction to research. It is designed to provide you with the opportunity to deepen your clinical and theoretical knowledge base in primary health care at a leadership and advanced communication level within your workplace and practice.
The Master of Nursing (Primary Health Care) will provide you with the opportunity to further develop your advanced, specialised theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in primary health care, and apply them in a range of situations. The course aims to enable you to contribute to the development of nursing and healthcare in your chosen field.
