ENGINEER YOUR OWN CAREER
All you need to know about engineering pathways.
Making the decision to undertake university study makes perfect sense, but sometimes deciding what to study and how to begin, can be a little tricker.
If you’re interested in an engineering career, there are a variety of prerequisites that come into play. However, fear not! There are also a variety of ways to enrol.
So, if you’re not sure about how to start your journey, here are multiple ways you can take towards an engineering career:
Direct entry - This is the most direct way to start your studies. If you have a competitive ATAR, and you’ve completed SACE Mathematical Methods or SACE Specialist Mathematics or the equivalent IB subjects, then you’re eligible for direct entry to one of our engineering specialisations, including:
Flexible Entry - If you’re not sure which specialisation is right for you, then the Flinders’ Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) – Flexible Entry could be right for you. It allows you to start your engineering studies without choosing a specialisation, then make your choice at the end of your first year, once you have a better idea of what field interests you most.
General Entry - If you didn’t study enough maths to qualify for direct entry, you could still start your engineering studies at Flinders by applying for the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) - General Entry. If you’ve passed SACE Stage 2 General Mathematics or SACE Stage 1 Mathematics, the General Entry pathway will boost your maths and physics to bring you up to speed with what you need. As soon as you can demonstrate the required level of competence in maths and physics, you can transfer directly into the named degree of your choice.
Engineering Science - What if you’ve only recently realised how incredible an engineering career could be, and you don’t have a stack of maths and/or physics crammed into your brain? You can still start on the path to an engineering career. Flinders’ Bachelor of Engineering Science will give you the foundations for further study in engineering or for a career in an engineering-related field.
Other pathways - If none of these options fit your situation, there are other pathways to university study. If you don’t have an ATAR, or didn’t achieve the ATAR your course requires, if you have previous higher education study, work and life experience or vocational education and training (VET), there are a variety of options available, check out our pathways page.
No matter what pathway you take, Flinders’ engineering degrees are designed to take you from learning to earning. You’ll study at our $120 million hub of innovation and entrepreneurship at Tonsley, take part in a nationally recognised industry placement program and network with teachers, mentors and businesses who will prepare you for the workplace.
Step into your future, and apply now at Engineering Pathways.
We offer one-on-one appointments with our prospective student team to discuss career options, pathways, and course and entry requirements.
