Indonesia is our nearest neighbour and home to more than 260 million people. It has a rich cultural history—and is undergoing a period of unprecedented political, social and economic change. Flinders University is the only university in South Australia to offer Indonesian; students from other universities can enrol through cross-institutional arrangements. Studying Indonesian is a vital key to understanding our region. In addition to your new language skills, you’ll learn how Indonesia works and the ways people think, feel and live together. You can choose to seize one of the many opportunities to study, attend an event or undertake work experience in Indonesia. After graduation you may find yourself taking part in the exciting development in our region through foreign affairs, diplomacy, journalism, healthcare, security, international aid, law, business or education.

Learning Indonesian at Flinders has been a great experience, the small class sizes helped in providing an engaging and productive language learning environment. With immersion days which connect students to the local Indonesian community and introduces us to aspects of Indonesian culture such as games, slang, the program is an amazing space to make new friends. I even got to go on exchange to Indonesia!
